Topic: Migration in Ghana is best understood as a connected process rather than separate movements. Participants unanimously identified that many people, particularly from rural and northern parts of the country, first move to urban centres like Accra, Kumasi or Sunyani in search of what they perceive as better opportunities. When these expectations are not met due to unemployment or difficult living conditions, some begin to consider migrating abroad through irregular means. They often look out for sources of information and logistics support, most of which are fake and exploitative. P
In Wenchi, participants note they have now understood migration as a gradual journey rather than separate stages, so discussing the processes of migration sequentially helps build better understanding of connectedness of decisions and movements.
